I almost always have a visible subject. I've done a few without it, which are abstract. The fun/challenge thing about painting from observation is you get to organize all the abstract means: shape, line, color, light, dark...to create illusion of light, form, space. The joy of subject comes through these concrete means.
Cool!
ReplyDeleteDo you ever paint without looking at a thing, or do you always have a visible subject?
